This workshop will aim to provide a logical sequence of topics, which will allow delegates to understand the background, theory and practical aspects associated with compliance with EU requirements for the sterilization of equipment/wrapped goods. Topics to be covered will include:

. Standards used - EN 285/HTM 2010

. EU control system requirements - Details the EU requirements for instrumentation and the way controls should be configured

. Air removal theory and practice - Introduces Dalton's Law and the impact that air has on the pressure/temperature relationship; details how the equipment sterilization process functions

. Equilibration time and cycle development - Defines equilibration time and explores its value as a performance measure

. Leak rate test - The importance of chamber integrity and guidance on the frequency of testing

. Bowie Dick test - The application of a standard test to the process to provide a minimum performance standard and guidance on test frequency

. Use of standard loads - The application and value of using standard test packs

. Air detectors - An introduction to an automatic method of detecting inadequate air removal

. Test equipment - Details of how logging equipment must be set up to monitor EU acceptance criteria

. Steam quality and testing - Derivation and application, non-condensable gases, dryness value, superheat
