Surgeon and their Patient Support Services Augustina N.Fashola Pig Dip (Mg) Dip (Mg) RGN Decontamination Guidance & Support The support services we seek to provide combines technical expertise with a strong clinical bias where the subject is viewed from the Users perspective, with a clear understanding of the operational issues. The services we offer are: Audits of existing decontamination facilities - instrument and endoscopy We can undertake routine or one-off structured, comprehensive audits of existing facilities and methods of work in accordance with current best practice and any proposed new regulations. We will provide detailed comments with our findings and can provide support and assistance in the implementation of any improvements necessary. We can provide guidance on outsourcing the decontamination service to special service providers. Aspect we provide guidance on are: Instrument inventory - advice on additional instrument requirements Routes - advice on the best routes for contaminated/clean instruments to leave/return to the hospital Reviews of proposed new facilities and assistance with designs - instruments and endoscopy Because the rules relating to the decontamination of surgical instruments are to change in April 2007 we are often asked to review new departments designs. We can review any new designs and plans with the hospital staff, management, architects etc. and advise them on HBN 13/HCC Compliance, operational matters and staffing implications. We can also provide guidance on equipment selection, tracking systems etc. etc. Documentation - Policies & Procedures We can provide a variety of policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments for all decontamination related activities. These can range from policies to cover single activities to corporate documents dealing with decontamination in its entirety. We can provide a full range of training, on a variety of topics, for all levels of staff involved in the decontamination of surgical instruments and endoscopes. This can either be carried out on the clients premises, or externally. Comprehensive training documentation/notes and Certificates of Attendance are provided for all delegates. Where required, post training assessment can be carried out and training records completed. Surgeon and their Patient Support Services In addition to Clinical Decontamination Services, Keith Shuttleworth & Associates offer the following personal specialist Clinical Support Services targeted at busy surgical professionals. The services offered are Pre-operative assessments at your clinic or your patients home. We are fully equipped to carry out ECG, blood pressure, pulse, saturated oxygen, respiratory checks, temperature and urinary analysis. Blood samples can also be taken. Physiological, psychological (counselling), social-cultural and medical preparation of patients for surgery. Referral to GP's and other specialists, where necessary. Arrangement of transport for the patient and attendance with them, where necessary - arrival and discharge. Wound dressing, suture removals, infection control and advice. Ensure that post operative medication is available on discharge. Counselling, support and reassurance via 24 hour helpline. Home visits when needed. Single point contact for the patient and the surgeon. Augustina N.Fashola Pig Dip (Mg) Dip (Mg) RGN ISO - Lead Auditor ISO 9000/2000 Augustina Fashola has worked with variety of organisations from NHST and Independent hospitals. She is a registered Manager with the Healthcare Commission for an acute hospital and a registered Manager with the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) for a nursing agency. She works for Keith Shuttleworth & Associated as their Senior Consultant (Clinical), auditing and commissioning decontamination units, endoscopy units and operating theatres and provides Patient/Surgeon Support Services. Her specialties are in the perioperative field, decontamination, infection control and general auditing. Augustina qualified as a nurse at The Kingston University Hospital, London in the late 1976’s.After she had undertaken her specialist perioperative qualification, she continued to undertake training and qualified in all fields of the perioperative care: anaesthetic, recovery (ENB 182). This enabled her to move into a Deputy Theatre Manager role for cardiac theatres initially and then Theatre Manager for some 12 years. She has commissioned decontamination units and endoscopy units. Augustina is an experienced Theatre, Endoscopy and Decontamination Auditor and Manager. As a Director of Nursing, she has been involved in evaluating medical devices and preparing for outsourcing the decontamination service. She has been actively involved in advising other hospitals in preparation for outsourcing decontamination. Augustina qualified in teaching and assessing with English National Board. (ENB 998). She has coached foreign nurses who have successfully achieved their NMC registrations, she has written competency assessments and assessed nurses in her hospital. She can prepare competency assessment formats compatible to specific work environments and can assess staff in other organisations, using competency assessment. |
